What's Avowed all about?

Avowed is an upcoming first-person RPG set in Eora which is the same fantasy world that was created for the Pillars of Eternity series. As of this writing, the gameplay and mechanics of the game are still a mystery and there is much to learn about later on. There are some key details leaked about the game. It is said that Avowed will be "fully open-world" and much larger than Skyrim, but not necessarily in total size. The world will be "denser" and "more contrasted"—which presumably means diverse. There will also be a "big focus" on world reactivity, lighting, and next-gen AI systems, and since the game is set in the same universe as the Pillars of Eternity, the creatures and wildlife will also be based on it but will presumably make some additions. The leak also stated that Obsidian Entertainment wants to make it possible to kill anyone in the game, similar to how Morrowind lets players terminate the main plot by killing certain key characters.

Avowed looks a lot like Skyrim, are they related?

No, Avowed is not related to Skyrim, but they somehow do have a similar approach to first-person RPG gameplay which will include rune-based magic and melee combat. Avowed is set in Eora, the same world that the developers used in the Pillars of Eternity series.

When will Avowed be released?

Avowed was announced way back in 2020, and as of this writing, the developers have not stated a release date for this game. A rumor has been speculating that the game is targeted to release in Q2 of 2024, and with so little information revealed about the game, the developers might even push the release date back since there are no updates regarding the development of the game.

Avowed Features

• Avowed will be "fully open-world" and much larger than Skyrim, but not necessarily in total size. The world will be "denser" and "more contrasted"—which presumably means diverse.
• The main setting will be The Living Lands region of Eora, which is a northern frontier not seen directly in either any series of the Pillars of Eternity.
• Creatures and wildlife will be based on the lore of Pillars of Eternity but there will be new additions to the game.
• Avowed will feature boss battles that happen on a very large scale.
• There will be a real-time weather system.
• Avowed will feature multiple factions where you can meet various NPCs and enlist in helping out your companions.

Avowed Release Date

The release date for Avowed hasn't been announced, but the game will be available on Xbox Series X and PC.

Avowed Gameplay

As seen in the reveal trailer, Avowed will be a first-person RPG that emphasizes first-person melee combat, as well as the use of magical spells, and possibly, ranged combat.

Avowed Setting

Avowed will take place in Eora, the same universe used in the Pillars of Eternity series. The trailer shown at E3 2021 showed us medieval landscapes, and war-torn castles, almost strikingly similar to Skyrim. The narrator then goes on to say that the empire has fallen into a state of disrepair giving rise to an unseen hostile force. Some Reddit users found some interesting information that can give us a better idea about the premise of the game. The flag seen from the trailer is related to Woedica, a deity also known as "Oathbinder". This deity is known to have shaped Eora but was killed by the other gods who conspired against her because they see her as too powerful. This deity is also one of the faiths held by the Aedyr Empire, the narrative of the trailer can be related to the story of Woedica, as shown in the trailer, the protagonist can be seen confronting a fallen empire and a destiny of broken oaths.
